Woodworkers Turners Carvers

Annual Notice of the COW
Jan 2015

2014 was a banner year for the group. We brought in a lot of new members and saw our meetings grow to a steady 20+ members showing up every month. We had several workshops in 2014 - bandsaws and dovetails in January and a design panel in March. All the workshops were well attended and we hope to have more in 2015.

The turning subgroup held three meetings in 2014 and all were well attended. One focused on turning bowls and another on hollow forms. Always much fun and lots of chips.

Discussions have been ongoing on starting a carving subgroup and that will start-up in 2015. The first meeting will be January 19, 2015 from 7 -9 PM at Chris Matthews shop. All are invited. Address is 145 NW Blackhawk Ave.

We did start the library in 2014 and to date it has not been used. We will keep it going and if it turns out that there is no interest we will kill the project. You can access the library on the website and contact the owner of the item to obtain it.

We updated the website in late-2014 -if you have not been to it lately you might want to check it out!

With growth comes changes and we are going to be making some changes in 2015. Nothing to great, but it is time for something to happen. So here it is.

1. We need new blood. These are the open positions:

Master of Ceremonies - open up the meeting and follow the pre-planned agenda. You don't have to make every meeting - we can always fill in for an absence.

Safety Coordinator - Bring up safety issues to the group, provide safety info and be a safe woodworker

Workshop Coordinator - NEW POSITION - we need someone to ask around for what workshops members might be interested in and then try and find someone to do a workshop for it. Workshops could be free or have a charge - up to whoever is holding the workshop. Fun position - you get to talk to people and make new friends!

Chief COW - This position is always open. If you are unhappy with the rulers of the group you can have the job. Duties are to find meeting locations, prepare and send the email notification, maintain the email list, sort out group problems, try and keep everyone happy, and do long range planning for the continued growth and happiness of the group. Coordinate with sub-group chairs and website manager as needed.

Website Manager - Maintain the meeting schedule (based on input from the Chief COW), post the meeting notice, maintain the classifieds page, keep the website up and running, etc, etc. Knowledge of HTML, PHP and SQL very helpful.

Turning Group Chair - Arrange for turning meetings and conduct meetings. Provide necessary info to Website manager as needed.

Carving Group Chair - Arrange for carving meetings and conduct meetings. Provide necessary info to Website manager as needed.

2. We need meeting hosts - open up your shop to new experiences, new people and show your stuff! Sign-ups for 2015 are happening now. You can contact me to schedule your meeting date.
